The legendary Christy O'Connor Snr celebrated his 90th birthday on Sunday December 21.

Affectionately known as 'Himself', O'Connor turned professional in 1946 and racked up over 40 professional victories.

An honorary member of The PGA, he was granted honorary membership of the European Tour in 2004 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2009.

Born in Knocknacarra, Galway, Christy's career spanned four decades, during which he won 24 European Tour tournaments including two British Masters, and two Vardon Trophies for leading the Tour's Order of Merit.

He played in an Irish record 15 Canada Cups, now called the World Cup, teaming with Harry Bradshaw to win in Mexico City in 1958.

He was undoubtedly one of Europe's finest ever Ryder Cup players, playing on 10 consecutive Ryder Cup Teams from 1955 through 1973.

And, uniquely for a touring professional, O'Connor has had a fifty-five year association with The Royal Dublin Golf Club.
