 Business Structure PS

As a PGA Professional, one of the key factors that influences the success of your business is how you manage your staff. In fact, Rowntree (2006) stated that “…as a manager, your most precious resource is your staff – the people whose work you are responsible for”.

Rowntree’s statement confirms the need to be, or to become, an effective manager! As a PGA Professional whether you manage one person (perhaps your assistant) or a whole team of people, the need to be an effective manager is vital. At the core of your management skills should be your ability to motivate your team, develop your team, conduct appraisals and manage their performance. Of course, with this responsibility comes the requirement to deal with the negatives as well and you may find yourself having to discipline staff and manage grievances. Equally as important skills!

We recognised this at the PGA which is why we have developed and designed the following e-resources to enhance your knowledge and skills as a manager.

Click on each of the e-lessons below to move forward (you can also locate these in the online resources section of PGA.info):

1. Introduction to managing people

2. Recruitment & selection

3. Managing staff
