Back for 2019 on 14th- 15th May, the PGA Channel Islands Challenge offers a rare opportunity to play the two best links courses in Jersey, world famous La Moye and its older peer, Royal Jersey.
The first 18 holes at La Moye GC on Tues 14 May will be played in a Pro-Am format followed by dinner and prize giving, with entries open to all for teams of one PGA Professional and three amateurs.
The Professional’s individual score in the Pro-Am will then be carried over to next day for the second round of individual stroke play at Royal Jersey to decide the overall winner of PGA Channel Islands Challenge.
Back in 2017 and braving gale force five to six winds, Jason Stokes, the then Channel Islands amateur champion from La Moye, made his mark amongst the PGA Professionals by claiming victory. La Moye’s Michael Lavers and Royal Jersey’s James O’Doherty came close to sharing that elusive top spot, but both bogeyed the final hole to miss out on a three way tie.
The event’s driving force is Jersey Golf Coaching’s PGA Advanced Professional Alex Mollin, a three-time winner of the Titleist PGA Assistant of the Year award. She said: “I’m delighted we’re able to run this event again, now for the fifth time. In true Jersey style it’s very relaxed, and everyone is very welcome to come and enjoy some spectacular golf. I’m really looking forward to what I’m sure will prove to be another terrific challenge for top class golfers over Jersey’s two best courses.”
Sam Smith, Regional Manager of The PGA in England (South) added: “The PGA Channel Islands Challenge is a rare opportunity for PGA Professionals to play these two internationally renowned courses in Jersey. The PGA is really looking forward to coming back to Jersey to support both the Channel Islands based PGA Professionals, and those that want to sample all Jersey golf has to offer.”
Mollin added: “Entries are now open to any PGA Professional, who will hopefully bring with them their own Pro-Am team, but if you’re travelling over from the UK and require a team, just let me know!
