It’s been quite a week for Richard O'Hanlon, probably the most-travelled golfer in the country.

The St Kew professional finished second to former European Tour winner Welshman Mark Mouland in the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall to bank a career-best £21,000.

Then he dashed back home to honour a long-standing commitment to play in the annual Truro pro-am, the highlight of the Cornish club’s festival week.

His success continued with a two-stroke victory after a round of two-under-par 65. He was the only player to better par over the tricky short lay-out. He was given the first start time as he dashed back to the Midlands to attend the Par 3 presentation.

So the prize-giving speech to a large and enthusiastic crowd of members was made by runner-up Chris Gill (Newquay).

O’Hanlon parred all but one of the six par threes – dropping his only shot on the 14th – and added three birdie threes. Gill made a two at fourth, added three birdie threes and dropped four shots.

Kevin Harper (East Devon) and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) shared third on a day sponsored by Cornish Aluminium Windows. Matt Williams (Dudsbury) recorded his highest finish fifth on 69 while one-time super-star Tony Nash (Porthpean) made his annual re-appearance to share fifth.

He was joined on 70 by three more Cornishmen - Matt Curnoe (West Cornwall), Grant Slater (Carlyon Bay) and Richard Sadler (Killiow) along with Welsh visitor Matthew Phythian (Valleys Golf Enterprise).

Others: 71 Scott Richards (Truro), Ross Whitelock (St Mellion), Nick Cook  (Bude & N. Cornwall), Nick Williams (St Enodoc), Steven Buzza (Clifton Hill), Dan Toogood  (Weston-super-Mare).

Curnoe led the Lifestar Medical ladies team of Naomi Page, Cathy Andrew and Tracy Enoch to victory in the team event on 14-under-par 120. The Cornish domination continued with Adam Curtis (Bude & N. Cornwall) taking second with Airforce One players Henry Cooper, Andy Ring and David Kneebone.

Truro’s Sarah-Jane Boyd’s team carded 122 to claim third place on countback. The former England amateur international who turned professional two years ago was unable to take the prize money as she was an invited guest of the Guy Candy team comprising Simon Finn, Killian Feely and Jake Finn.

They finished ahead of Tony Pitts (St Austell), who took third place money, and Nash who returned the same score in the 46-team event.
