Parry has final word after shaky start

Steve Parry finally got his hands on the PGA in Lancashire Matchplay Championship trophy at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

And in a twist of fate the Hart Common professional also sponsored the competition, courtesy of his North West Golf Academy which is based at the Westhoughton club!

But he did not have it all his own way. He lost the first four holes in the semi-finals against Formby assistant Matt Harrison but hit back to prevail 2&1.

Chilli Dip Academy boss Jimmy Barr ousted Hesketh assistant Curtis Dean by one hole in a tight match to earn the right to meet Parry.

But this time the former Leeds Cup winner was quick out of the blocks and was four up at the turn.

Barr halved the deficit to two after a birdie at the 16th but the end came when he bogeyed the next.

Meanwhile, Barr's clubmate Craig Corrigan finished top of the order of merit - courtesy of his victory in the county PGA Championship earlier in the week.

But it was a close finish as he denied Mossock Hall's David Shacklady by two points.
