Steve Parry served up a barnstorming back nine before defeating Michael Ramsden in a play-off to lift the James Brearley Lancashire Open at Blackpool North Shore.

The North West Golf Academy coach from Hart Common trailed the overnight leaders by four shots following a level par 71 on day one but surged into contention in a rousing display in the final order of merit of the season.

Parry picked p six shots in six holes from the 10th on his way to a seven-under-par 64 – the lowest round of the week.

It put him into a sudden death with Ramsden (Renishaw Park) who had fired a 65 with Parry clinching the title with a birdie on the first extra play-off hole – the 533-yard par five 10th.

Joint overnight leader Phillip Kelly was third a stroke behind at six under for the £8,300 tournament.

Meanwhile Pwllheli Golf Club’s Mark Pilkington was in a share of fourth spot which was enough to secure him the PGA in England & Wales (North) Order of Merit to add to the Druh Belts & Buckles PGA North Region Assistants’ Order of Merit he also won.
