Ralston's Greg Paxton won his first prize money of the season competing in the PGA in Scotland when he headed the 16 players who will go forward to the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship from the first of two back-to-back qualifying competitions at Crieff Golf Club.

In his fourth event of the season, Paxton shot seven birdies, including five in a row from the ninth to the 13th, in returning a five-under-par 66.

He also birdied the third and 16th and had bogeys at the seventh and 17th in finishing at the head of a big field keen to win a place in the Scottish PGA Championship over the Kings Course, Gleneagles from July 28 to 31.

Only 16 qualifying spots were up for grabs and there was a play-off between the six who finished on par 71 to eliminate one of them. Paul Jamieson (Dunblane) was the unlucky loser.
