Two brothers who are both PGA Professionals will be running the London Marathon together to raise funds for the Caudwell Children charity.
Paul Carpenter followed in his brother Kevin’s footsteps to pursue a career in golf with The PGA, with both having shown promise in a number of sports at an early age.
Kevin excelled at football but was introduced to golf and showed great promise as a junior at Colchester Golf Club. Soon his handicap lowered, and he took a job as an Assistant at Chelmsford Golf Club, where he enrolled onto the PGA Training Camp.
Paul eventually caught the ‘golf bug’ after constant badgering from his sibling. He had lessons from his brother and soon enough landed a job at his local driving range.
“Although Kevin and I were relatively good golfers, we were also realistic in our playing ability and recognised that playing golf for a living was out of the question,” Paul revealed. “So the route of The PGA was our preference with so much to learn in golf teaching, business studies, rules, repairs and sports science.”
Kevin landed his first big break at The Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland before moving abroad to Bahrain. He landed a top role at another Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor before developing his own trick shot business.
Again, Paul followed in his brother’s footsteps and became as Assistant at Gleneagles working at the facility’s golf academy. He is now based in Murcia, Spain where he is running The Paul Carpenter Golf Academy.
Like golf, Kevin was the first to run the London Marathon and after failing to earn a place in the past, Paul will stand proudly alongside is brother at the start line for the 2020 event on April 26 after accepting a place through the Caudwell Children charity.
“The fact that we are running in the London Marathon together in the same year is absolutely amazing,” Paul continued. “We are very fortunate and very proud to be raising money for such a good cause.
“Caudwell Children is a brilliant charity, it is a national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families.
“They provide specialist equipment, therapies and treatments, in-hospital and in-home support, short break activity days and adapted sports equipment to disabled children.
“Kevin is a father of three and I am uncle Paul and we both appreciate the importance of healthy, loving and supportive lifestyles, enabling the children to grow and blossom to their full potential.
“We cannot wait to run the marathon, we are very much looking forward to the day and it’s fantastic for two brothers of The PGA to be running, enjoying every minute and mile whilst raising money, supporting such a good charity in Caudwell Children.”
Both Kevin and Paul have set up JustGiving pages and would appreciate any donations.
