PGA Kent Closed Championship open for business

The PGA in Kent and Kent Golf Union (KGU) has announced the 2017 PGA Kent Closed Championship will be held at Kings Hill Golf Club near West Malling on Monday April 3. Entries are open to Kent’s category 1 amateurs and PGA Professionals.

For the first two years of the championship the event was hosted by Lydd Golf Club, the second of which was won by King’s Hill’s Sian Evans (pictured above) following a four way play-off.

Commenting on the tournament, KGU secretary Paul Loman said: “The PGA Kent Closed Championship is a unique opportunity for the county’s top amateurs to compete directly against their professional peers. It also gives them the chance to compare their games with those of seasoned PGA Professionals.

“Besides creating stronger ties between the Kent Golf Union and The PGA in Kent and promoting golf in Kent generally, Sian’s fantastic win last year also helped us to raise the profile of ladies golf in the county.”
 
King’s Hill director of golf and Kent County PGA chairman Ben Blackburn added: “2017 is going to be a busy year for Kings Hill. As well as the PGA Kent Closed, we’ve got the Kent Amateur in June, and then there’s the PGA Southern Professional Championship again in September.

“It’s a fantastic challenge getting everything in top condition but it’s a great way to both showcase Kings Hill and continue our support of all golf in the county.”

County PGA secretary Sam Smith is equally pleased. He said: “The PGA Kent Closed Championship extends our relationship between Kent’s professional and amateur organisations, and between its premier golfers.

“It’s ideal for amateurs who want to explore careers in golf, and may encourage some who are thinking about a future in The PGA.”

There will be an anticipated £2,000+ prize fund for the PGA Professionals and an excellent prize table for the amateurs, with a trophy for the overall winner.  All entry details for can be found on The PGA in Kent Tournament Schedule on BlueGolf.
