The PGA in England and Wales (North) has joined forces with the Manchester Alliance to organise a curtain-raising pro-am at one of its major tournaments.
It’s the first time the two organisations will work together.
And if everything goes to plan, a precedent could be set at the Manchester Open at Marriott Worsley Park on August 26.
Regional secretary Graham Maly explained: “We’ve always had strong links with the Alliance so we regard this as a natural progression in our relationship.
“Without a sponsor this year there was no way we could have run the pro-am.
“We are also hoping the venture will offer useful networking opportunities.”
Alliance president John Dowd said: “I suggested the idea to The PGA and we’ve been asked to help promote it as a pro-am, am-am as we do with our normal fixtures. The cost is £30 a pair.
“The difference is it won’t be limited to Alliance members because anyone can enter. There will be a shotgun start at 1.30pm and hopefully we’ll attract a full field.”
Meanwhile, Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady, above, will defend the Manchester Open title over the two days following the pro-am.
