PGA Professionals were on hand to help more than 1200 would-be golfers take their first steps into the sport during Devon Golf Month.
The coaches offered free taster sessions at clubs across the county, and attended roadshows in Torbay, Barnstaple and Plymouth as part of the Get into Golf campaign.
In Torbay, all five clubs who sent representatives to the roadshows signed up new players for their clubs, while every person who attended a town centre event organised by Dainton Park Golf Club signed up for more coaching sessions.
Ten PGA Professionals also attended the Devon County Show, where more than 500 people took the opportunity to sample the game.
And with the numbers for the overall event significantly up from last year, which attracted around 900 people, the month was deemed a huge success for organisers the Devon Golf Partnership.
Craig Townsend, county development officer, commented: “We had a fantastic month and encouraged about 1230 people to have a go at golf. About 300 of them are going on to take follow-up coaching opportunities and that’s really good news.
“Golf is a great game for everyone who enjoys friendship, fresh air and exercise and it’s never been easier to get started. Our golf clubs and driving ranges are very welcoming and encouraging to newcomers and returners to the game.”
