PGA South Captain’s Day raises over £10,000 for PGA Benevolent Fund

10/12/2019

The popularity of Prince’s PGA Professional and Director of Golf created a new record with 144 players turning up to support the PGA Benevolent Fund and his own day as the Region’s Captain.

As Tarchetti put it: “This event was a great success last year, but I’m blown away by the numbers that have come to Prince’s this year. I’m particularly pleased that the majority were amateur golfers who wanted to show their support for The PGA, and I can also say that everyone had a lot of fun, both on and off the golf course!”

The real success of the day was off the course with all the players cramming into the clubhouse for a curry, prize giving, raffle and auction. Generating additional and all important funds for The PGA’s own charity, this means extra support for PGA Members suffering hardship or distress.

The newly re-imagined Prince’s Himalayas-Shore layout is already proving a massive draw for golfers everywhere, and in a shotgun start the 72 pairs played in groups of eight around the classic links layout. There was one additional VIP guest for the day on the first tee where all the players had a photo opportunity with the Ryder Cup trophy.

Captain Tarchetti and his amateur partner Mike Dunderdale came in with a respectably solid 36 points, but the local knowledge of Prince’s General Manager Rob McGuirk and his partner Richie Woodham outshone that by notching up the winning 39 points. That also pipped the 38 points of the amateur pairing of Tony Adams and Stacy Long by one point to make them the runners up.

The remaining spots were filled with amateur golfers determined to support The PGA, with a four way tie for third comprising amateurs Dave Elmer and Andrew Watson, PGA Professional Tony Hilton (Lewes Golf Club) and partner Mark Hilton, and amateurs Michael McGuirk and Geoff Long, and Ben and Brian Raven.
