PGA South region announces 2023 schedule

20/01/2023

The PGA have announced a schedule of over 60 events for the South region in 2023, with historic Prince’s on the Kent coast hosting the opening Winter Series tournaments, starting on January 23.

Pro-Am events again dominate the calendar, including the Westcoast Pro-Am at Bearwood Lakes in July which remains one of the largest in Europe, with the prize fund a shade under £40,000.

There will also be two trips to the Algarve in February and November, while the biggest prize fund of over £55,000 is up for grabs at the PGA Professional Championship in mid June, which this year moves to Sherwood Forest Golf Club. The Nottinghamshire venue will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s dramatic finish at Slaley Hall, where Matthew Cort snatched the title after a playoff against Daniel Whitby-Smith.

The Sunningdale Heath Pairs Pro-Am in early June will be the first of four events counting towards the 2023 Order of Merit, followed by the PGA Surrey Open at Cuddington (July 10-11), the PGA Kent Open Championship at Prince’s (August 14-15) and the PGA Southern Professional Championship at Chart Hills (August 30-31).

Sam Hutsby claimed the 2022 Order of Merit by a comfortable margin thanks to his two victories at Sunningdale Heath and Chart Hills, either side of another podium finish at the PGA Surrey Open.

The 2023 campaign will conclude in Turkey at the picturesque Antalya Golf Club, where the St James’s Place National Pro-Am should attract a stellar field with its total prize fund of £34,000.
