TCC Steve Backley 2 PS

Olympic start to 2017 announced!

January 2017 will kick off with the PGA Teaching and Coaching Conference taking place at the beautiful Old Thorns in Hampshire.

Free of charge to PGA members the conference will be headlined by former Olympian Steve Backley OBE. For over a decade, Steve was one of Britain’s most consistent and popular athletes and established himself as one of the all-time greats of his sport. Since retirement from sport Steve has written three inspirational books and launched his own business “BlackeyBlack” – delivering “Olympic Performance in the workplace.”

We will also hear from two PGA members who have developed their coaching expertise at opposite ends of the performance pathway.

Performance coach Steven Orr (PGA Master Professional) has been a full time golf coach for 15 years; during this time he has left no stone unturned in a quest to understand the truth’s as they relate to high performance in both golf and personal achievement.

Children’s Coach Neil Plimmer (Fellow PGA Professional). His special interest is how coaches and teachers should first introduce sport to new participants, young and old. He is particularly interested in the role of play and how coaches can set up environments that absorb, engage and create a love for the game that means people return week after week, year after year.

The day will conclude with Dr Richard Bailey and his colleague Ed Cope. Richard is an internationally recognized authority on physical activity and human development. He has directed studies that have influenced policy and practice both nationally and internationally. As a speaker Richard is renowned for being inspirational, knowledgeable and hugely entertaining. Ed is an established researcher in the field of sports coaching and youth sport, as well as working in a coach education capacity; he was a senior researcher evaluating the Premier League's Physical Education and School Sport Programme. Richard and Ed will demonstrate how to turn robust research into actionable insight and practical coaching tools.

The PGA Teaching and Coaching Conference 2017 will be taking place on 25 January 2017 at Old Thorns Manor in Hampshire and is FREE OF CHARGE to PGA Professionals.

Further information will be released about the speakers and their presentations in the coming weeks.

The TCC is fully-booked, however, if you would like to add yourself to the waiting list please contact the Member Education Department on 01675 470 333.
