Mark Pitcher made a happy return to Stinchcombe Hill when he won the latest event in the Total Triumph Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series with four shots to spare.

The PGA Trainee, who is now attached to Filton Golf Club, showed he has not forgotten the best way to tackle his former home course by posting a four under par round of 64.

He served notice of what was to come with a birdie at the first hole en route to reaching the turn in one-under.

The 32-year-old followed up by going through the gears on the back nine, atoning for a bogey at the 10th with birdies at 14 and 17 before signing off in style with an eagle at the par-five 18th.

All of which left a quartet comprising Brean duo, Andrew March and Josh Heseltine-Smith, Cirencester’s Mark Plummer and Enmore Park’s David Dixon, who was making his seasonal debut, sharing second place after posting level par rounds.

March, the county chairman, now heads the Order of Merit, albeit with a slender lead. He is a quarter of a point clear of Giuseppe Licata while Ed Goodwin is third.
