Portelli too good at St Neots

Glen Portelli returned to the winner’s circle after a birdie blitz at the St Neots Pro-Am.

The Verulam professional blazed to a two-shot victory, thanks to a stunning five-under-par 65.

Portelli signalled his intentions with a birdie at the opening hole – the first of eight that he would make.

There were back-to-back slip-ups at the 12^th and 13^th but the Portelli victory charge was back on track at the 14^th where he picked up a stroke.

And he notched his final birdie at the 17^th to ensure that he came home with a bit to spare from James Ruebotham (Welwyn Garden City) and David Salisbury (Three Rivers).

Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows) led the winning team, who notched a tally of 126 – one clear of the next best.
