Portsmouth amateur Tim Higgs is relishing the ‘chance of a lifetime’ as he prepares to fly out to sunny Portugal for the Lombard Trophy Final.
Carpenter Higgs will be joined by Portsmouth Golf’s Head PGA Professional James Green as they look to win Europe’s biggest pro-am when they go head-to-head with 14 other clubs in the 36-hole showdown in the Algarve.
More than 700 clubs entered the popular PGA National Pro-Am Championship which reaches its climax at Pestana’s stunning Vila Sol Golf & Resort Hotel on the Algarve from September 21-22.
Green and Higgs clinched their spot in Portugal after winning their regional qualifier at Walton Heath Golf Club back in July thanks to an eight-under par 65, which also earned them £450.
“When we came off at the 18th hole, we knew we’d made a good score but we weren’t sure it would be enough to win it,” said 10 handicapper Higgs.
“But it was and I still can’t take it all in, it was enough for me just to play at Walton Heath but going to Portugal is the chance of a lifetime.
“I’ve been playing what I’d call solidly for about five years now and I’ve been a member at Portsmouth for four of them. I just love golf - I can’t get enough of it, sometimes I end up hating it too, but I always come back for more!”
