James Scade (Ingrebourne) shot a terrific 13-under-par 277 over four rounds to win The Sunshine Pro-Am in Portugal, supported by Tony Collins Golf Tours and BPS. Despite being a shot behind going into the last day, Scade pipped runner up Louis Savill (Tandridge) to the £1,100 top prize with a fabulous five-under-par final round of 68.

Scade produced four impressive sub-par rounds of 71 at Quinta North, 68 at Vilamoura Old, 70 at Quinta South and then the 68 at Vilamoura Old for his 13-under total of 277. Savill’s total of 11-under-par 279 earned him £850, while Steven Mitchell (PGolfCoaching@Etchinghill) was third on 285 for a cheque of £800.

Scade and Savill had been neck and neck throughout the week, and with four out of five scores counting, Scade found top gear in the last round at Vilamoura Old shooting a five-under-par 68 to pip the Tandridge man into second place.  Hard winter practice sessions for Louis Savill obviously paid off as for the 6 rounds for the week, he was a magnificent 16-under par!

Now in its ninth year, The Sunshine Pro-Am, brain child of Tandridge’s Chris Evans and Royal Mid Surrey’s Matt Paget, saw 24 teams of ‘tourists’ assembled in the Algarve for some very welcome winter sunshine and the enjoyment of escaping the UK winter for a few days on some of Portugal’s finest courses.

Not just content with great golf and fun in the sun, ‘Evo and Padge’ also got the teams involved in raising funds for charity, and activities during the week raised over £5,000 for local Kent children’s charity, Demelza House.
