Matt Ford put his ‘Royal Mail’ career on hold after delivering at European Tour Q-school to secure his card for next season.

The Kent ace and PGA.info blogger, cast aside a disappointing season on Challenge Tour to finish fourth in Spain and look forward to competing on Europe’s top tier.

He will be joined by Tom Murray who will embark on his rookie season – and follow in the footsteps of his father Andrew - after finishing tied 10th.

Ford, who revealed earlier this month he was applying for a winter job with the Royal Mail after finishing 91st in the Challenge Tour rankings, finished the six-round marathon on 15-under-par and could be rethinking his plans with the prospect of teeing it up in South Africa next month.

The father-of-two, who has revealed the trials and tribulations on tour through his blog, tweeted “I can’t believe it!” having seen a fairy tale ending to his season, which included coming through the second stage of qualifying and then the gruelling six rounds in Spain.

Murray, whose father Andrew won the European Open in 1989, began his journey back at first stage in mid-September.

The 24-year-old, who was runner up at the Powerade PGA Assistants’ Championship in 2012, finished on 10-under-par and comfortably claimed one of the 27 cards handed out.

His jubilant father tweeted: “What a day @TomMurrayGolf! Couldn't be more proud - 10 for 6 rds. Now that's pressure #chuffed #chipofftheoldblock
