Ian Poulter has recorded a special good luck message to Great Britain & Ireland’s PGA Cup team ahead of their quest to win on US soil for the first time.
The Ryder Cup legend, who came through the PGA ranks, urges Jon Bevan’s team to ‘think Medinah’ when they go head to head with America at CordeValle, California from September 18-20.
Rhos on Sea Golf Club PGA pro Bevan posted the clip on Facebook to help focus his players’ minds ahead of what will be a huge challenge.
In the PGA Cup’s 42 year history, GB&I’s best results have been two draws – at Missions Hills, California in 1977 and at Turnberry Isle in 1981.
“It’s fantastic for Ian to take the time to record a good luck message and I posted it to incentivise the team and keep them focused on the reason for going to America,” said Bevan.
The video has already had the desired effect as revealed by one of GB&I’s ten-man team - Lee Clarke (Beeston Fields).
“When I first heard that message the hairs on my neck stood up. I’ve never had that happen before – normally it’s a song or an occasion but to hear Poulter wishing us luck in the PGA Cup made it real and I can’t wait.”
The 2015 GB&I PGA Cup team comprises: Cameron Clark (Moor Hall), Lee Clarke (Beeston Fields), David Dixon (Enmore Park), Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf), Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge), Niall Kearney (Royal Dublin), Jason Levermore (Channels), Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre), Gareth Wright (West Linton) and Alex Wrigley (Hartlepool).
The US team is: Michael Block (Arroyo Trabuco), Jamie Broce (University of Toledo), Stuart Deane (University of Texas), Matt Dobyns (Fresh Meadow), Sean Dougherty (Oakwood Country Club), Alan Morin (The Falls Country Club), Ben Polland (Deepdale), Bob Sowards (New Albany), Grant Sturgeon (Winged Foot) and Omar Uresti (PGA Life Member).
