Price prospers beside the seaside

Former Ryder Cup player Phillip Price claimed the individual prize in the final pro-am of the season at Weston-super-Mare.

The immaculate Welshman enjoyed his first visit to the club and his winning finish was based on a four-birdie run over the final six holes after his second dropped shot at the 12^th left him at level par.

Price also captained a team containing Paul and Stuart Coleman, but they failed to produced their best form on a day of strong winds beside the seaside.

The trio from Vivary Park, Oake Manor and Taunton and Pickeridge finished fifth.

Price is now seeking more competitive golf before attending final qualifying at the European Tour School in Spain next month.

Order of Merit winner Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) would have been celebrating a tie for top spot and a 13^th win of the season but for a three-putt bogey at the 18^th. Instead he settled for second.

But his playing partners Steve Roberts, Rob Price and Paul D’Arcy were happy as the team winners on 86 points. They led Enmore Park pro David Dixon’s trio of Steve Bristow, Adrian Metters and Paul McGlinchy by one shot with Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin and Neil Mossman, Lee Ayres and Charlotte Bolton third on countback.

A typical round of five birdies and four bogeys by the adventurous long-hitting Goodwin helped him to a share of third on 69 with Dixon whose bogey lapse on the 18^th proved costly.

In-form duo Daryl Kelley (Filton), who birdied the final two holes, and Andrew March (Brean), who made a birdie at the last, shared fifth on 70.
