Award-winning PGA pro Allan Martin will hit the streets of Glasgow this weekend to take part in the Great Scottish Run and raise funds for the PGA Benevolent Fund in the process.
The 41 year (above right), who last year received the PGAs of Europe President’s Award for Golf Development (Individual), runs the race on Sunday 20 years after he last took part.
Martin has set up a special fundraising page to encourage donations in aid of the registered charity which does a lot of good work for PGA Members fallen on difficult times.
“Every year The PGA Benevolent Fund raises money to support members of the Association who through illness and hardship need help, assistance and welfare support,” said Martin.
“In order for the benevolent fund to help these deserving individuals money needs to be raised through fund raising activities.
“It is 20 years since I first ran The Great Scottish Run Half Marathon and I thought using this event and sport to promote the PGA Benevolent Fund, The PGA and Golf would give me the boost I need to finish the race!”
Based at Buchanan Castle Golf Club, Martin has contributed to a number of projects that have looked to develop the game specifically with the pilot for Scotland’s ClubGolf junior golf initiative, the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup Coaches Conference, and has also been a mentor for numerous assistant professionals across the years.
