Three PGA Professionals who graduated together before seeing their families affected by cancer are set to run the Birmingham Half Marathon to raise funds for research into the disease.

James Eades (Precision Golf), Antony Nash (St Enodoc) and David Wilson, a PGA tournament controller, have already raised more than £400 for Cancer Research UK as they prepare to take on the challenging 13 mile route through the heart of Britain’s second city.

The Cornish Rattlers are hoping their sweat-inducing efforts on October 18 will help to raise awareness of the crippling effects cancer has on sufferers and their families throughout the UK.

And should their first run be successful they are looking to follow up by completing a full marathon in 2016.

Each of the trio saw one of their parents contract cancer in the months following the completion of their AGMS degrees four years ago.

Eades eventually lost his father to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma last May while Nash’s mother and Wilson’s father are currently in recovery.

Wilson said: “We were all good friends at university and stayed in touch after we graduated.

“It was really unfortunate that all our families went through very similar things at around the same time.

“My dad is now fortunately in remission but James and his family weren’t so lucky. We just want to raise awareness of how cancer affects both those diagnosed and their families and hopefully raise a bit of money to support further research into the disease.”

Anyone who wishes to support the trio can donate to the cause at their Just Giving page.
