Young Christopher Evans found the new Pype Hayes GC (above) to his liking as he claimed a four-shot victory in The PGA in England (Midlands) Trainee Stroke-Play Championship.
Wishaw man Evans shot off the blocks by eagling the very first hole, his opening nine of 32 established a commanding lead that he never looked like relinquishing with some steady golf over the remainder of the day.
His six-under-par score of 136 over the two rounds was one of only four sub-par scores as the revamped course defended itself well in calm conditions.
In joint second place on 140 sat Michael Reed from Forest Hill GC in Leics and another young Sutton Coldfield professional, Robert Bardsley (Moor Hall GC).
The Pype Hayes team who had been eagerly awaiting their debut PGA Midlands event were delighted with the success of the day and the feedback from the 53 golfers who attended was evidence of a job well done.
“The overwhelming response we received was that golfers were shocked at just how good we were, both on and off course” enthused Richard Hampton, Pype Hayes Head PGA Professional and Golf Operations Manager.
The MyTime Active owned venue will be in the spotlight again on April 15th when it hosts the first PGA in England (Midlands) qualifying school of the year.
