James Quinlivan is hoping some of Patrick Devine’s past glories will be revived the pair team up for the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship qualifier at Headfort Golf Club.
The Mullingar Golf Club PGA professional will partner Devine who won the title nine years ago with Stuart Taylor when the final was held at Forest Pines Golf Club in Lincolnshire.
Now Quinlivan is playing alongside Sutton Golf Club’s Devine for the first time in this competition and the duo have their sights set on the final when they tee off at the Co Meath venue.
They will be bidding for a place in this year’s £33,250 BMW-supported showpiece event which will be played at Belton Woods Golf Club in Lincolnshire on August 29-31.
“I’m looking forward to playing with Paddy who’s obviously won this title before,” said Quinlivan.
“It was a few years ago but we’re going to be trying to get to the final in
‘We’re two good friends and we’re both looking forward to it.
“We were both on the PGA Southern Branch Committee and got quite friendly through that. So we decided to get together to play the event.”
Quinlivan says the pair have high hopes of making it through to the showpiece final.
“I think Paddy’s already booked the flights to England! I think it’ll be great craic for us to go and play it,” said Quinlivan.
“But it’d be great to get over there for the final, they’re always very well organised, superbly done and good to play in.”
It would be Quinlivan’s first final if he gets there.
‘I’ve not made it to the Fourball Championship final and I haven’t played in the event for a few years, there have been clashes with other events before. But this is a good chance and it’ll be good to play at Headfort which is a great course.”
Other teams from Ireland due to play at Headfort include: Matthew Cochrane/Andrew Manson (Edenmore Golf & Country Club); Gavin Byrne/Karl Goodwin (Beaverstown Golf Club); Mark Staunton/Gavin Kavanagh (Delgany Golf Club); Sean O’Donoghue/Eoin O’Connor (Kilkenny Golf Club).
