After winning the Waterlooville Pro-Am a week ago, Andy Raitt struck gold again to win The Berkshire Pro-Am with a fabulous four-under-par score of 68.
Raitt edged out the hard charging David Callaway (Foxhills) and PGA in England and Wales (South West) raider Brian Lee (Bristol Golf Centre) into second spot, each with cards of three-under-par 69. Raitt’s form in August has been inspired with two wins and four other top ten finishes.
Starting on the second, Raitt had made two birdies by the eighth, but an eagle at the ninth turbocharged him to four-under-par. Another birdie at the 11th got him to five-under, but a sequence of bogey, birdie, bogey meant he finished with a 68.
A hole in front of Raitt and starting on the third, Callaway was one-over-par by the ninth, but found the right gear on the 11th with a birdie, and then made another three at each alternative hole – 13th, 15th and 17th – to finish with a terrific back nine of four-under-par 32. Pars for his last two holes left him in a tie for second place.
Lee started on the third, birdied the fourth and then gave it back at the sixth to be level-par after the ninth. He made three birdies on the trot from the 13th, only to give two of them back with bogeys at the 16th and the 18th. Finally, Lee found an eagle at the first and safely negotiated his last hole with a par to secure a share of second place.
Raitt commented: “August has been very good to me, and my results have pushed me up the Money List into fourth place. The Berkshire was as usual in top condition, and everything about the course and the day was top notch – and not for the first time over the past four weeks, my golf was as well!”
David Callaway also took the team prize with his team of three members from Foxhills, who won 3 Sun Mountain Trolleys and also a two-day trip to Marriott Dalmahoy with Virgin Little Red and The PGA South.
