Michael Ramsden birdied the first extra play-off hole to win the North East Masters at Rockliffe Hall.
But the Renishaw Park man thought he’d blown his chances when he three putted the 16th in the second and final round then doubled bogeyed the next.
“It wasn’t the best of finishes but I got the job done,” said Ramsden who tied with Abbeydale’s Gareth Davies in normal time.
“The course was tough and the venue second to none and one of the best we’ve played on without a shadow of a doubt. It was long but fair and any stray shots would punish anyone.”
Ramsden added: “I finished 11th in the club pro competition earlier in the season and missed getting into the PGA Cup team by one shot at the end of last month. It was disappointing but I’m hoping I could still end up as first reserve.
“I’ll be competing in the English PGA three-day event at Bowood next week, which is the second biggest on our list, and I’m hoping to push on from there.
“It’s a couple of years since I won the Leeds Cup and Order-of-Merit and I’m looking forward to competing at the level again.”
