Colm Moriarty shot a sensational nine-under-par 62 at Newcastle West to claim the course record and win the PGA Newcastle West 75th Anniversary Tournament.
In a spectacular performance at the STL Logistics sponsored event he spread nine birdies over his card without a bogey in sight.
Moriarty teed off at the 10th with birdie two and added birdie three at 11. From the 14th hole he pencilled in five birdies in a row, going 4-3-3-2-3 to turn in seven-under-par, with just two regulation par fours at 12 and 13.
As he turned for home, on the front nine, the winner made birdie three at the second hole and carded his ninth birdie of the day at the long eighth, before finishing with par, to complete a fantastic round of golf.
The Glasson pro had five clear shots to spare at the top of the leaderboard over four players, including Tour player McGrane and Mark Staunton who brought in the winning team on 94 points.
The amateurs were given two-thirds of their handicap with Staunton’s partners, with their full handicaps, being Eugene Hannon (13), Declan Mooney (16) and Joe Lynch (26).
