Former Ladies European Tour ace Wendy Dicks has hailed a course aimed at recruiting and coaching the recreational golfer.
Dicks, who spent 16 years competing on the LET, has just returned to full-time coaching at North Weald Golf Club and has taken some positive lessons from the regional day-long course held at Ufford Park, which is heading to the south east and west of England in early November.
Having spent a career at elite level, Dicks is now adapting to the varying standards of play from recreational golfers.
The 43-year-old has begun coaching beginners and a cadet side that includes a number of talented players as she continues the upward career curve as a PGA Professional.
Reflecting on the course, Coaching the Recreation Golfer, Dicks said: “I like listening to the other pros and the various things they do.
“I’m quite new to the teaching as I was a player for many years and my knowledge and experience is at the elite and exceptional standard.
“I am coming to terms with the various standards and recruiting and retaining golfers is a new aspect as I know very little about that.
“One of the best parts of the day for me was to hear Alistair Spink about getting lapsed golfers back into golf and those that are starting afresh.
“It was a very novel approach and enables us pros to approach each beginner accordingly.
“I did get a lot out of the day and for pros that may be looking for ways to improve then this course will do that.”
Advanced PGA Professional Fiona Brown, the PGA’s regional coaching development for the south east, who is co-ordinating the course schedule said: “Feedback following the event has been very positive and I am looking forward to the future events.”
Guest speakers at the two forthcoming courses include John Jacobs, David Haskins and Alan Walker.
The remaining two courses are at Brickhampton GC on Tuesday November 5 and Hoebridge GC on Thursday November 7.
