Red Hot Rodgers Runs Away At Kings Hill

After four spectacular wins in June, the new PGA Southern Open champion Chris Rodgers (Richings Park) has made a great start to July by winning the Kings Hill Pro-Am, supported by local estate agents KHP.

In firm and fast conditions, his three-under-par round of 69 was enough for Rodgers to beat a field full of winners, past and present. As he commented: “Instead of chasing scores and tending to get into the odd bit of trouble, I’m now thinking clearly, finding the fairways and letting the scores build as the opportunities arise.”

“I also know the courses better now, and know what to hit off the tee to finish in the right place. The Kings Hill greens were a nice pace but the fairways are fast at the moment, so the par fives were reachable even for me!”

Taking home the winner’s cheque for £600, Rodgers dropped just one shot in his round of 69, finishing four strokes ahead of the runner up, Langley Park’s Paul Sherman. Starting on the 17th in a shotgun start, Rodgers reeled off birdies at the first, third, ninth and 10th before bogeying the par three 11th.

Local lady Sian Evans’s Kings Hill team pipped Ryan Salliss’s Hever Castle team on countback for the team event on -15, and in the Nearest The Pin competition, Pentland Golf’s Benn Barham took the prize with the shot of the day on the 8th.

Rodgers has a busy few days in front of him now, with the Kingswood Charity Pro-Am on the 6th, and then the Cuddington Pro-Am on the 8th as the warm up for the second Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit event of 2018 at Cuddington - the PGA Surrey Open Championship - over the following days.
