PGA Advanced Professional Robert Moss has been recognised by Mendip Spring by having his services to golf locally, nationally and internationally posted on the club’s official honours board.

The North Somerset club made a surprise presentation as the name of Robert Moss was added to those of his club’s players who have won national honours.

Club chairman Bill Hole arranged a special evening attended by members and past captains.

"I'd just finished a teaching session and Bill told me to come into the clubhouse," said Moss, who has been on The PGA's panel of referees since 2002.

"I'm very fortunate that I have a very mixed role - coaching at Mendip Spring but also being able to go to tournaments at various levels from the European Disabled, PGA, PGAs of Europe and recently the USPGA Championship.

"Refereeing takes me to some fantastic places and I was very fortunate to be asked to step in at the Ryder Cup as a referee because of the weather at Celtic Manor. Last month the PGA of America made us very welcome for the USPGA Championship at a wonderful venue on a great course.”

Moss qualified in 1992 and then joined Mendip Spring. He has been tour director for many PGAs of Europe events, as well as recently being involved in European Disabled Golf.

Hole said: It would be remiss of us not to recognise Rob for his amazing achievement in golf, and in particular refereeing. His success should be recorded as part of the history of this club. The turn-out endorses that he is held in high esteem although he was terribly embarrassed by the whole event.

"We value Rob's work here and with The PGA, and as a club are proud of his achievements. There is no doubt this club benefits from the kudos of having a PGA referee on its staff."
