Corhampton’s Adam Reid is warming up in fine style for the PGA in Hampshire’s
first major of the season, the Be Wiser Insurance PGA in Hants Stroke Play which will be held next week at The Army Golf Club, writes Ken Gaunt.
The PGA Assistant Professional, 24, secured his second victory in four weeks on the circuit by winning the Hartley Wintney Pro-Am. He edged out Sam Shipman, a PGA Trainee at the host club, by one shot with a four-under-par 67, thanks to five birdies.
Lee on the Solent’s Jon Barnes came third with a 69 and Reid could not hide his delight at beating a strong field. He posted on Twitter: “I am so happy to get my fifth pro win and my second victory of the season.” Recent winners Chilworth’s Mark Dawe and James Green of Portsmouth Golf Course finished down the field, tied 13th.
Reid’s’ latest success should put him in a confident frame of mind heading into the Be Wiser Insurance-sponsored Stroke Play Championship. Winchester Golf Academy’s Dan Seymour is scheduled to defend his title at the Army Golf Club on June 20.
Reid has another important date on his busy schedule when he travels to Saunton in Devon for the finals of the English PGA Championship (June 27-29) after qualifying from South B.
