Retirement Seminar hailed "success" by PGA Professionals returns to PGA HQ!

17/05/2016

Retirement happens to us all but how prepared are you? A seminar aimed at helping PGA Members tee up a successful retirement is set for September. Nat Sylvester reports.

Retirement PS

As seminars go, retirement might not be the most exciting subject around but arguably it is one of the most important you could possibly attend.

And, following its successful pilot launch last year, The PGA is again hosting another two-day seminar in tandem with Retirement Education Services which will take place at the PGA National Training Academy from September 20-21.

Six PGA Members and their partners attended 12 months ago and the overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted the value of running it again in order to give more members the opportunity to learn just what they need to do to ensure a happy and successful retirement.

The seminar is aimed at PGA pros (and their partners) who are five years plus from retirement (approx.) and are looking to plan for the future.

Among the speakers is Tony Wheeler from Retirement Education Services, while there will also be a retired PGA Professional to share their experiences plus a certified solicitor and a certified independent financial advisor.

While retirement is an exciting time with the chance to break free of the daily work routine, it also requires plenty of planning to enable you to pursue opportunities.

If you are weighing up whether to attend this seminar you should ask yourself these questions:

  • When will you retire? Is it a good idea to retire at the same time as my partner?
  • Are you prepared from a pension planning perspective?
  • How will you keep healthy?
  • Are you downsizing, moving abroad or staying put?
  • How will you wind down your business (retail, coaching or otherwise)?
  • Will you retire full stop or still continue to work part-time, utilising your skill and expertise?
  • Have you an up to date will and considered Powers of Attorney for yourself or parents?

Michael Abbott, The PGA’s member education executive, added:

“With government pensions, employment-related sources and personal investments, there is much to consider which is why this seminar is so important.

“Retirement will be more enjoyable if your income is structured to fit your lifestyle choices and if you have developed a retirement plan to protect the assets you have worked hard to acquire.

“The aim of the seminar is to give members a clear picture of what they need to do to ensure they are best equipped when retirement comes”

Here’s what Tony Wheeler (Retirement Education Services) course leader for the workshop had to say:

“We really enjoyed providing our first retirement planning seminar for PGA Professionals last year and are looking forward to returning this September to build on its success! The past 12 months has seen lots change in ‘the world of retirement’ with the introduction of the new flat rate state pension, freedoms over company and personal pensions, and modifications to inheritance tax. Come along if you want to plan for your future and make retirement a seamless and enjoyable experience for you and your family!”

Book the date

The two-day seminar will take place September 20-21 September at The PGA National Training Academy.

The course has again been heavily subsidised and will cost a total of £200 (for both days) and PGA Professionals can bring along a significant other FOC (cannot be another PGA Professional who’s a friend).

To book, you can either use the new ONLINE BOOKING on The PGA’s website or contact the Member Education Department on 01675 470 333.
