Scott Richards made it a double home win in the opening Cornwall Professional Golfers’ Alliance meeting at Truro.

He won the individual professional section with three-under-par 64, worth 39 stableford points, and linked with club captain Graham Cowls to take the pairs with 46 points.

The club’s head professional for the past three years, after spells at West Cornwall, The Kendleshire in Bristol, Carlyon Bay and Cape Cornwall, he is better known for his teaching. But he is an accomplished player although his rounds are limited by his club and coaching roles.

On a warm sunny day 48 players took part. Alliance captain Dan Wood (Ivyleaf) and Russell Binney (St Austell) shared second on 38.  Wood and Ivyleaf amateur Dale Howarth were runners up in the pairs on 44, one better than Truro’s Ben Pill and Steve Caruana.

Jeremy Knight and Colin Reynolds from St Enodoc won a new Am-Am award.
