Richards triumphs at West Cornwall

Truro professional Scott Richards won the Cornwall Professional Golfers Alliance meeting at West Cornwall with a one-under-par round of 71 worth 35 stableford points.

Joe Venn (Tehidy Park), who has been playing well in Alliance fixtures in his first season as a professional, was runner up two shots behind. The experienced Grant Slater (Carlyon Bay) was a shot further back in third.

On a blustery day with sharp showers 80 members played in a four-man team format . Mullion’s Chris Ramsden, this year’s Alliance captain, led the winning team of Ray Griffiths, Angus McArthur and Alan Engall into first spot with 77 points.

They were followed by Slater, Dave Holland, Martin Woolltorton and Nick Avery on 75. Richards, Graham Cowls, Danny Downing and Simon Hoyle pipped Venn, Pete Risely, Jeremy Knight and Nigel Connelly on countback for third place on 74
