Graeme Robertson’s magical month on the domestic scene continued at Haddington as he set the early pace after day one of the Scottish Young Professionals’ Championship.
The former Scotland and GB&I amateur cap, who is attached to the Fairways Golf Studio in Coatbridge, fired a five-under 66 to lead by a shot from Scott Young of North Berwick.
Robertson has been in fine form over the last few weeks and kicked off the month with a share of second in the prestigious Northern Open, which is now part of The PGA’s new Open Series.
The Larbert man then won the Young Pros Sprint Series event at Bathgate and the Drumpellier Pro-Am on Father’s Day before keeping alive his dreams of a place in the 150th Open by easing through regional qualifying at Goswick on the eve of this week’s championship
He hit the ground running in East Lothian with a birdie on the opening hole and further gains at seven, 10, 12 and 15 burnished a tidy card.
Young recovered from an early double-bogey and finished with a brace of birdies at 17 and 18 in a 67 while another in-form player, Joe Bryce, posted a battling 70.
Bryce, who also progressed past The Open’s regional shoot-out, had been four-over after 11 but mounted a rousing salvage operation on the run-in and birdied 12, 13, 14, 16 and 18 to repair some of the earlier damage.
Dominic Bradburn, the defending champion, picked up a birdie on his final hole in a level-par 71.
