Leek PGA Professional Greg Rogula is set to tee up alongside club captain Trevor Eccleston in a bid to secure a slot in a national final in Turkey.

The duo are to take part in the Golfplan Insurance PGA Pro-Captain Challenge regional qualifier at Enville on August 25. The winner there will claim a place in the £25,000 championship final over the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club on November 25-26.

Rogula has been head professional at Leek for the last 18 months and is relishing the opportunity to represent the club alongside captain Eccleston, a 14-handicapper who worked in the construction industry before his retirement.

“My golf has really been coming together this last few months,” he explained.

“So I can’t wait to get out there and Trever and see if we can get a place in the final.

“It would be great to have the opportunity to play out in Turkey, but we know we have to do well at Enville first.

“Trevor’s a good golfer who plays two or three times a week, so I’m sure he’ll be great out there.”

Rogula is relishing his role at Leek, having stepped up to take the head professional position in June last year.

“It’s been brilliant here since I joined, I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” he enthused.

“I’m just a typical, old-fashioned head pro doing everything I can around the club like retail and coaching.

“I represented the club in this event last year and really enjoyed the experience. We didn’t do too bad in the end either.

“Now me and Trevor need to see if we can go one step further and make the final in Turkey.”

Other players competing in the regional qualifier at Enville include: Glenn Williams and Colin Dicken (a) (Druids Heath), Simon Arnold and Dave Hulme (a) (Greenway Hall), Philip Cary and Mel Baker (Lakeside Golf), Christian Goodman and Ian Waite (a) (Matlock) and Mark Butler and Michael Twiss (a) (Penn).
