Sale is one of several clubs nationwide embracing women’s golf – and especially in the PGA North region.

Last year it launched a drive to increase membership by introducing taster sessions followed by a four-week coaching programme under the watchful eye of resident professional Mike Stewart.

“The ladies were then handed the opportunity to join the club on our Get into Golf three-month membership initiative,” explained club manager John Jackson. 

“It included two lessons with one of our professionals, free use of the practice facilities and access to the course with a full member.

“We had more than a dozen join our scheme last year and since then nine have become full members.

“We held our first taster session this season in April and 22 people turned up. We split into two groups with myself taking one and Mike the other. It was meant to last an hour but went over the limit because half of all the ladies were enjoying themselves so much!”

Jackson added: “Nineteen signed up for a four-week coaching programme with Mike and 16 have since joined as members. This really has been fantastic to welcome so many of them and our pathway to full membership is working well. Hopefully all 16 recruits will join as full members.”
