James Jankowski (IGC London) birdied his final hole to edge a one-shot win in the Brocket Hall Pro-Am.
Jankowski was in superb form at the first region’s first pro-am of the new season. Right from the start he was on song, recording an opening birdie – just one of six he would make, alongside an eagle.
He signed for a sizzling six-under-par 66 to pip Daniel Field (East Herts) and Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) by a solitary stroke.
Jankowski, who teed off at the fifth under a shotgun start, was one-under through 12 holes before a stunning scoring blitz that was telling, ultimately.
He finished five-under for his last six holes, including that eagle three on 18 – his 14th. But most importantly of all, Jankowski was one of just two players to birdie the 465-yard par-4 fourth hole – where he completed his round.
Field also produced a flying finish to get to six-under with a hole to play. He birdied four in five holes before giving one back at his last, the sixth.
Like Jankowski, Talbott collected six birdies and an eagle but a double-bogey on the 15th proved costly. Ian Ellis (Great Yarmouth & Caister) and Ian Campbell (Cheshunt Park) both tied for fourth after respective three-under-par rounds of 69.
Talbott led the winning team of a tally of 123 – one clear of the Field quartet.
