Adelaide / China Fleet’s experienced Europro player James Ruth shared first place with home professional Gary Lenaghan in the Cornwall Professional Golfers Alliance meeting over the Trevose links.
They returned three-under-par rounds pf 68, worth 39 stableford points, one better than Chris Gill (Newquay) with promising newcomers Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) and Joe Venn (Tehidy Park) a further shot back.
Ruth made it a double by winning the pro-am with 44 points, playing with amateur Sam Murphy the start was delayed for 30 minutes because of frost.
Lenaghan also featured well in the team event. He partnered the club’s manager Dave Cowan, a former Cornwall county player, into third place in the pro-am. They posted 42 points, the same as St Austell’s Russell Binney and amateur Dale Band who claimed second on countback.
Carlyon Bay’s Grant Slater and Martin Wolltorton were fourth on 41.
The am-am result: 47 Glyn Rowett/Mike Ellis, 46 Darren Kinsman/Simon Inwards, 45 Jordan Harvey/Peter Lewis, Carl White/Dev Adey.
