Ryder Cup stars Peter Baker and Paul Broadhurst will be able to roll back the years when they link up for today’s final round of the PTS Invitational at South Staffordshire Golf Club.

Baker’s Ryder Cup exploits date back to the Belfry in 1993 while Broadhurst’s brush with the Americans came two years earlier in Kiawah Island in what was dubbed the War on the Shore due to the feisty contest between the teams.

Baker, head professional at the Wolverhampton course, is joint leader on seven-under par after the opening two rounds with Nottinghamshire’s Lee Clarke, who returned the best card on the second day, shooting a four-under par 67 to go level at the top of the leaderboard. Broadhurst three shots adrift.

Baker, winner of the title in 2011, has been steady over the opening two days, dropping just one shot over the 36 holes. Clarke’s journey to the head of the pack in this opening round of the PGA Midland Order of Merit has been more eventful with an eagle, nine birdies and four bogeys.

The leaders will be the last of the 10 groups to tee off – the opening group will start their challenge at 11am.
