Stewart Savage will mark an association going back a quarter of a century with playing partner Craig Everett when the pair compete in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship Scottish qualifier.
Savage, of Dalmuir Golf Club, and Caldwell Golf Club professional Everett will tee off in the event being held at Musselburgh Golf Club on June 15.
They will be hoping to secure a place in the £33,000 final which takes place on the Jack Nicklaus designed course at Carden Park in Cheshire between August 17-19.
Savage has already reached one final this year by booking his place at the PGA Professionals Championship to be held at The Oxfordshire course.
Now he hopes to seal a second one with long-time friend Everett.
“We always play in these events together and do well as a team,” said Savage. “And we go way back, probably 25 years, so we’re well used to the way one another plays.
“It’s good to get to the final of the Fourball event, it’s always a bit of a birdie-fest.”
But Savage is aware that Scottish pairings have not always been successful in the final.
“I don’t know why that is,” he said. “But it’d be good if a Scottish team could win it. We’ve got a good record in the qualifiers and playing at Carden Park will be a big incentive.
“I did okay getting to The Oxfordshire, but my game hasn’t been that good since so I’ll be looking for an improvement at Musselburgh.”
But Savage is also keeping one eye on his 21-year-old son Jamie who is an up and coming amateur player.
“Jamie’s in the GB & Ireland squad and playing off plus four at the moment,” said Savage.
“He’s doing well and looking to turn professional himself one day.”
Also playing in the Musselburgh qualifier will be host team Norman Huguet and Cameron Marr; Martyn and Oliver Huish (North Berwick), Peter Scanlan and Anthony Mackrell (Playsport Golf); Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) and Paul Malone (Braid Hills Golf Range), Gareth Wright (West Linton) and Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) and Scott Clelland (Hayston) and Gordon Robertson (Airdrie).
