James Scade won the second PGA in England (East) Par 3 Championship on his home course at Ingrebourne Links with a round of three under par.

He birdied the final two holes in a bogey-free round to overhaul four players who finished on two under.

James Taverner of Hendon dropped a shot last while Darren Turner (Ingrebourne Links), Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) and Gary Carter (Five Lakes Golf and Country Club) all had three birdies and one bogey.

Tom Clements, the former Norfolk amateur now a trainee at Eaton, and Nick Pateman (Pinner Hill) both had scores of one under par.

Scade, a former Braintree junior, said: "It's been a tough year when I have had a change of coach and suffered a thumb injury which meant I have had to alter my grip. I now play with an unorthodox grip and it has been hard to adapt.

"I won the pro-am at Colchester last month but otherwise I have seldom been in contention.

“This par-three course is in brilliant condition and it was nice to win where I am attached."

John Pryor, chairman and director of Ingrebourne Valley, added: "I was very pleased with the turnout and it was great to have a home-based winner.

“I thank the East Region for their organisation and hope that we have the competition over 18 holes next year."

John Smith, secretary of the PGA in England (East), said: "The complex is really impressive. It is good to see them making such great progress. Nine holes of the 27 they are currently building could be open next year."

Ingrebourne Valley, who own Ingrebourne Links, are again sponsoring the PGA East Autumn Classic at Aldeburgh and Thorpeness on October 2 and 3.
