James Scade survived a bogey at his final hole to secure a narrow victory in the East Herts Charity Pro-Am.
The Ingrebourne Links-attached professional feared the worst after finishing off his morning’s play with a three-putt.
Scade signed for a four-under-par 67 and then was forced to wait and see if any of the afternoon starters would better his score.
But when the last of the 42 players had completed, it was Scade who remained on top of the pile.
The Essex PGA Professional, who has suffered with a chronic hand injury, showed that he is close to his sparkling best once again.
Teeing off at the 10th he was five-under without a blemish after 16 holes. He pieced together a near-impeccable round and deserved his one-shot victory from Luke Bowers (Bourn Golf & Leisure) and Jason Levermore (Channels).
For Bowers it was a best-ever finish on the East region schedule. He capped a solid performance with a brilliant 6-iron from 198 yards to set up a three-foot eagle putt at the 17th.
Noel Quinn (Whipsande Park), Steve Cipa (South Essex Golf Centre) and Chase Davis (Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel) all shot two-under to tie for fourth.
The winning team on a tally of 123 was led by Ian Taylor (Essendon CC).
