Blairgowrie assistant Neil Cameron and Iain Deacon (Loch Lomond) qualified for the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship after tying for the lead at Crieff Golf Club.

Cameron started badly with bogeys at the second and fourth, and another at the seventh, but he got into his stride to notch a bag of eight birdies in all, at the fifth, sixth, eighth, 10th, 11th, 15th, 17th and 18th.

Deacon had fewer birdies but also made fewer mistakes. He birdied the sixth, eighth, ninth, 11th and 18th, dropping only one shot, at the 13th.

Both men secured their places at Gleneagles by carding four-under-par rounds of 67.

There should have been nine players on 78 playing off for the last three places among the 47 qualifiers but David Knapp (American Golf) and Shaun McBride (Everything Golf) did not turn up.

That left seven playing for the last three places. It took three holes for James Clive (Buchanan Castle), James Dick (Duddingston) and Graham Mackay (Melville GR) to win their spots.

The unsuccessful play-off participants were Brian Marchbank (unattached), Jordan Gallagher (Douglas Park), Matthew Laughtland (Bishopbriggs) and Jamie Fraser (Renaissance).
