David Shacklady kept alive his hope of retaining the PGA in England and Wales (North) Order of Merit title when he won the inaugural Carus Green Cumbria Open at the Kendal club.

The Mossock Hall maestro, in a four-way share of the overnight lead, added a 66 to his opening 64 for a 12-under-par aggregate to prevail by a shot from Bedlingtonshire's Mathew Webb.

Shacklady rolled in four birdies in a row from the sixth to take his tally to six before blotting his card with a bogey at the last.

Royal Liverpool assistant Michael Jones claimed third place three strokes off the pace.

And Cheshire-based Paul Grannell, who broke the course record with a 10-under-par 61 in the pro-am, was fourth.

Meanwhile, the action continues on Tuesday in the James Brearley Lancashire Open, spread over two days at Blackpool North Shore.

And that's where the Michael Slater Order of Merit crown will be won as the event brings down the curtain on the tournament season.

A close finish is on the cards with Shacklady, who has won the title three times, 79 points behind Alex Belt, from Snainton Golf Centre and De Vere.

It will be a straight fight between the two with no-one else in the reckoning.
