The PGAs in Kent and Sussex are toasting Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame which is sponsoring a number of tournaments in both counties in 2016.
Following the successes of previous years, the Kent-based brewer will be the title sponsor of The PGA in Kent Championship at Canterbury GC in September, and also support a number of PGA tournaments within the county of Sussex.
Giles Hilton, Shepherd Neame’s head of free-on sales, outlines what he believes makes Shepherd Neame a cut above other suppliers.
He said: “We are still a family-controlled, regional brewer. We think of all our customers as local. We know what it takes to run successful clubs and pubs.
“Our Spitfire and Master Brew ales are well known brands that members and visitors prefer. We have 12 different real ales from seasonals like the Christmas Ale to different strengths such as Bishop’s Finger, and with the brands like Asahi we have some of the best-selling premium and craft lagers as well.”
Shepherd Neame supplies pubs, hotels and clubs in Kent and the surrounding Home Counties, and is a big name in golf sponsoring the Kent, Sussex and Middlesex County Golf Unions.
From Royal St. Georges to Silvermere, there are 50 or so golf clubs whose members enjoy - and often insist on - drinking Shepherd Neame’s products. But there’s much more to pulling the perfect pint, a factor Hilton full understands.
“As well as delivering top quality product, we develop strong partnerships with all our customers,” he added.
“We don’t wait around for orders. Our eight regionally-based managers visit every one of our customers frequently to find out what more we can do to help them build sales, what major events will need extra equipment, and so on. Our success is built on the strength of our customer relationships. Being able to support local golf, golfers and the PGA Professionals in Kent allows us to do that.”
The PGA in Kent Championship and The PGA in Sussex Championship are a 36-hole tournaments and will be held at Canterbury GC on Tuesday 6th September 2016 and Royal Ashdown Forest GC on Wednesday 31 August 2016 respectively.
