Shifnal Head Professional Neil Allsebrook can’t wait for his rejuvenated club to play host to the Midlands Professional Championships in September.
The Shropshire club, widely recognised as having one of the finest courses in the county, will host the concluding event in this year's PGA in England (Midlands) Order of Merit after undergoing a transformation in the hands of the former Dereham GC PGA Professional.
“We originally held a meeting with The PGA (Midlands) earlier this season with a view to hosting a pro-am in early summer, that would have been an honour in itself as I don't think the club has hosted one for over 20 years,” Allsebrook explained.
“But we just didn't feel quite ready then, to have them come back to us recently and ask us to host the final big event of the season is a tremendous honour for the club,” he added.
Fortunes at the club have been boosted by a new hands on pro shop team and much improved practice facilities, a new range has been built since Allsebrook took the reins in 2011.
Now he is turning his attention to reviving Shifnal as a top tournament venue as the former host to The Logan Trophy and the English Ladies is looking forward to being back in the limelight.
“Hopefully this will be the first of many Midlands 'majors' we can host here, all the hard work on the course was completed earlier in the summer, and it's currently playing as well as we've ever seen it,” Allsebrook added.
The Midlands Professional Championship at Shifnal is held on September 23rd with the traditional curtain raising pro-am arranged for the day before.
