Wet weather now seems synonymous with the Senior PGA Championship since Luxury cruise operator Silversea jumped on board, but once again the rain did not deter this year’s fabulous event which was won for a second time in as many years by Scotsman Fraser Mann.
Silversea Cruises became the headline sponsor of the Senior PGA Championship 12 months ago as part of a three-year deal.
The family-owned business, which runs cruises into more than 800 destinations on all seven continents around the world, oversaw another action-packed three days of action at the stunning Foxhills Resort in Surrey, where the prize fund had been increased to £40,000.
Asked why Silversea were keen to get involved in this particular event, the company’s commercial director for the UK and Ireland, Lisa McAuley, said: “The PGA has got a rich, rich heritage so it’s a huge coup for us as a brand to be able to work in conjunction with them.
“I knew of the PGA, I had a previous relationship with them with my last company so I thought it was an excellent opportunity because there’s lots of brand synergies between the PGA and Silversea, so I was really excited when we were able to form a partnership.
“The demographic is ideal for us which is one of the reasons why we wanted to get involved with the Senior PGA Championship.
“There’s a great camaraderie too here between at the tournament which is very similar to the kind of ethos within our business, but also on board all of our ships.”

Just under 200 players took to the fairways and greens at Foxhills Resort on both the Longcross and Bernard Hunt courses in their question to get their hands on the Bernard Hunt Trophy.
Plenty were in contention heading into the final day of action but it was Scotsman Fraser Mann who won a three-man play-off to once again be crowned winner after tasting success at the same venue two years ago.
The event was deemed a success by organisers and officials, and Lisa hinted that Silversea will be looking to extend their sponsorship beyond the current deal, which ends next year.
She continued: “I would love for Silversea to expand the current deal into the future.
“The event itself was fantastic and it was a really exciting finish to what was a great couple of days at Foxhills Resort.
“We’d also like the sun to shine next year! I’m nervous that we’re tempting fate and brining the rain with us, but I’d love to see this form into a long term partnership.”
There are exciting times ahead for Silversea following the recent launch of its latest flagship Silver Muse, which joined the fleet in April.
It offers eight superb restaurants with an unrivalled culinary experience, 300 luxurious suites and tailor-made outdoor spaces, which raises the bar in ultra-luxury cruising.
Lisa added: “Silver Muse is selling really well and there are lots of new and exciting products so we’ve been kept very busy.
“Silver Muse is they key development and then later on this year we’ve got Silver Cloud, which is one our classic ships, moving over into the expedition fleet.
“That will be happening in November and she’ll be making her way down towards Antarctica on her inaugural voyage.”
