Simon Edwards has certainly not been resting on his laurels since he was forced to end his playing days earlier this year because of back problems.
He’s already made his mark as a qualified referee by running European, Senior, and Challenge tour fixtures plus GB&I and PGA of Europe to name a few.
And now he has landed an additional role by signing up as tournament director for the Mena Tour in the Middle East and North Africa which runs from January to early March.
“I was approached by Wayne Johnson who is in charge of the series and who, astonishingly, just happens to hail from Windermere where I live,” he said.
“He has asked me to set up the events from start to finish which include on-course refereeing, scoring and prize-fund allocations and so forth.”
Edwards, 47, reflected: “It’s been great working with some seriously skilled referees this year including Derrick Cooper who is doing a great job on the Senior Tour.
“I have also been involved with the upcoming new Rules of Golf and visiting clubs in the North West and further afield to help explain them.”
